Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the New Orleans Saints have reached an agreement with free agent safety Tyrann Mathieu and are expected to finalize the deal in the days ahead. Mathieu, native of New Orleans’ 7th Ward, has spent the last three seasons as a Kansas City Chief. As a Chief, Mathieu won a Super Bowl, was named to an All-Pro team, and made two Pro Bowls.
Mathieu attended high school at St. Augustine in New Orleans. He then played college football at LSU, where he burst onto the scene and made a name for himself, earning the nickname “Honey Badger” for his fearless style of play despite his subpar size. He was drafted to the Arizona Cardinals in 2013 and spent one season with the Houston Texans in 2018 before moving on to Kansas City. Now he’s coming home.
