Saints expected to meet with former Titans coach Mike Vrabel next week

The Athletic reports the New Orleans Saints are expected to meet with Mike Vrabel next week. The former Titans coach has a strong resume:

The New Orleans Saints are looking to expand on their head coaching search next week as they’re expected to meet with former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel, per The Athletic’s Diana Russini.

Vrabel has already sat down with the New York Jets thus far and is also expected to speak with the Chicago Bears in the near future as well. Vrabel is one of the most highly regarded coaches in this year’s hiring cycle, as he comes with experience and previous success as a head coach.

This past year, Vrabel spent time with the Cleveland Browns as a consultant after being dismissed by Tennessee at the end of last season. In Vrabel’s six years with the Titans, he posted a record of 54-45 reaching the playoffs three straight times from 2019 to 2021. During his tenure, Vrabel was also awarded AP Coach of the Year in 2021 as he led his team to a 12-5 regular season record, securing the number one seed in the AFC.

As a defensive minded coach, Vrabel’s 3-4 scheme would be a transition for the Saints who ran a traditional 4-3 front under Dennis Allen. In Vrabel’s head coaching career, his defense ranked top-15 in points per game in four out of his six seasons on the job.

With an impressive resume as a culture builder and proven success on his side of the ball, Vrabel would likely be one of the better hires that the Saints could make this offseason. Let’s see if he and the Saints can schedule an interview and formally get this process started.
