This should be fun: the NFL announced Monday that the Jacksonville Jaguars will join the New Orleans Saints for two practice sessions ahead of their Aug. 23 preseason game in New Orleans, both of which will be open to the public (though tickets must be reserved in advance). 2021 first overall draft pick Trevor Lawrence, first-year NFL head coach Urban Meyer, and the Jaguars will make the trip to Metairie on Aug. 20 and Aug. 21.
It’s going to be exciting. Sean Payton has spoken often about how much value he places in these joint practices with other teams, which gives coaches an opportunity to evaluate their players against different competition after weeks of training camp competitions between the same players. New Orleans has met up with the Los Angeles Chargers, Houston Texans, and New England Patriots in recent years for similar late-summer practices.
And it’ll be fun to see Meyer reunite with many of his former players from their time together at Ohio State; there are a few prominent Buckeyes suiting up for the Saints in Michael Thomas and Marshon Lattimore, plus Nick Vannett, Malcolm Jenkins, and rookie linebacker Pete Werner. So keep an eye out as the NFL’s calendar continues moving along.
