Saffo said that if a Jordan statue in Wilmington ever comes to be, “It should be downtown. Tourists would love it,” he said. “It’d be a great honor to have it. It’s long overdue and, honestly, probably should’ve happened a long time ago. For whatever reason, it hasn’t.” Of course, a statue worthy of Jordan’s rep wouldn’t come cheap. The way the city typically does displays of public art is for the work itself to be privately funded — Saffo said he’s had inquiries — and for the city to provide the land. Potential locations could include the Wilmington Riverwalk or perhaps even the new Riverfront Park and amphitheater.
