Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who is set to hit the open market when the new league year begins on March 18, reaffirmed his desire to return to the team in 2020.
Tannehill had his best year as a pro in 2019 and helped take the Titans to the playoffs. He also earned the Comeback Player of the Year award for his efforts.
Despite all that, Tannehill’s future in Tennessee remains a bit murky. It isn’t clear if Tannehill and the Titans are actually negotiating a contract right now, or if Tennessee has its eyes on a certain future Hall of Famer instead.
Regardless, Tannehill would like to return to the team he helped take to the playoffs and won a Comeback Player of the Year award with in 2019, as he said in an interview on Sirius XM NFL Radio.
“I like what we started there last year, the guys around the team, and I’d like to be back. We’ll see what happens, obviously getting down to the last couple of weeks here. … A lot of conversations got to go on back and forth to kind of figure out where we’re at.”
The Titans could opt to use the franchise tag on Tannehill, but the deadline is rapidly approaching on March 12. If no tag is applied by then, Tannehill would hit free agency and can negotiate with other teams.
It would be hard to imagine the Titans let it get to that point after everything they accomplished with the Texas A&M product last season — unless of course they’re planning on bringing in Tom Brady to replace him.
