Since joining the Tennessee Titans in 2019, quarterback Ryan Tannehill’s finger roll after scoring a touchdown has become a staple celebration for the team — and now former and current NBA stars are weighing in on it.
Current Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant, and former Detroit Pistons star and Hall of Famer Isaiah Thomas were asked to take a look at Tannehill’s form and share any critiques they have.
And Tannehill has since responded to the ESPN feature:
“I never thought that that would be something, but it’s been fun to kind of incorporate that and it’s grown since 2019,” Tannehill said, per Ben Arthur of The Tennessean. “Definitely a cool little feature. My wife showed it to me Sunday after the game, so I thought it was pretty cool.”
Tannehill says his signature move wasn’t something he thought up beforehand, it just kind of happened a few seasons back.
“I don’t remember what game it started,” Tannehill said in the video above. “It was a home game. I was running to the left and it was wide open. I just did it. I don’t know. It wasn’t something I had thought about beforehand or anything like that. It kind of just caught on and kept it rolling.”
As much as we love the finger roll, Tannehill scared the collective bejesus out of fans in 2020 when he stumbled in the midst of his touchdown celebration during the game against the Buffalo Bills.

Thankfully he was OK. Tannehill should keep the finger rolls coming, he just has to make sure he sticks the landing.
