Rutgers to send marching band representation to games at Boston College and Temple

The Rutgers marching band will be traveling to the football team’s first two road games.

Sound the trumpet and strike the drums. Rutgers football is going to have some marching music for their first two road games of the season.

On Wednesday, the Rutgers marching band account on Twitter responded to a question about if they will travel to Saturday’s season opener at Boston College or two weeks later for the game at Temple. The response said that “a small group” is heading for Boston College and then the whole ensemble will be at Temple on Sept. 17.

The marching bands and the atmosphere created is one of the great things about college sports. It is certainly something unique to college sports in this country.

Last season, the Rutgers marching band traveled to the game at Indiana. They were a good luck charm for that game as Rutgers rolled to a 38-3 win for an impressive Big Ten win.

Last year’s traveling support was a fortuitous scheduling boon for Rutgers. The marching band performed the exhibition that weekend at the ‘End of Finals Competition’ as part of Music for All’s Bands of America Grand National Championships. It was quite an honor for the band and allowed them to travel to the game and participate in the football game’s atmosphere.
