The good news for Rutgers football is that the murder’s row part of the schedule is nearly over. The sobering news is that this Saturday’s opponent continues to soar up the rankings.
Two weeks ago it was a 20-13 loss at Michigan, now No. 8 in the latest USA TODAYS Sports AFCA Coaches Poll. On Saturday it was a blowout loss to Ohio State, currently seventh in the same USA TODAY Poll. This Saturday it is Michigan State, up five spots and No. 11.
When head coach Greg Schiano likened the Big Ten schedule to the NFL, he really wasn’t kidding.
“Well, I think everybody understands that’s life in the Big Ten, right? Every week is a tremendous challenge,” Schiano said after the Ohio State loss.
“That’s why I liken it to the National Football League. It’s every week, you’ve got to strap it up and you’ve got to find a way. But now we’ve lost back-to-back ball games. So we need to stop that.”
