Marquise Watson was one of 65 names to make the Rising-star assistants you need to know from On3. The Rutgers football defensive line coach is in his first year back with the program after having been a defensive assistant in 2018.
Watson appears to be getting some legitimate buzz as both a coach and a recruiter. A former New Jersey football standout at Paramus Catholic, he went on to have a strong collegiate career at Bryant before getting into coaching.
Now in his first season with Rutgers football, Watson sure seems like a savvy hire by head coach Greg Schiano. Prior to coming to Rutgers, he was an assistant at Ole Miss.

Several other Big Ten coaches join Watson on the list: Ty Howle (Penn State, tight ends), Mike Miller (Maryland, tight ends), Sherrone Moore (Michigan, offensive line), Bobby April (Wisconsin, linebackers) and Anthony Poindexter (Penn State, defensive backs).
Watson was the only selection from Rutgers.
Several with strong ties to the program made the list. Houston cornerbacks coach David Rowe and Florida co-offensive line coach Darnell Stapleton, both players under Schiano, were named to the Rising-star assistants’ list.

Rowe was strongly linked to the open secondary job at his alma mater this offseason.
Minnesota co-OC/wide receivers coach Matt Simon, who was in player development at Rutgers in 2012, was also named to the list.
