Rutgers field hockey, women’s soccer remain ranked in latest polls

Rutgers field hockey and women’s soccer remain ranked in this week’s polls.

Rutgers field hockey moved up one spot in the latest rankings, this as the women’s soccer took a bit of an undeserved tumble in their own national ranking.

Field hockey, despite a 4-3 loss at No. 2 Maryland on Sunday, still managed to move up one spot in this week’s National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll. No. 19 Rutgers (7-7, 3-4 Big Ten) is at No. 12 Syracuse this weekend as their regular season closes out with three ranked opponents in as many games before the Big Ten Tournament takes place in Columbus, OH.

Rutgers is No. 16 in the nation in RPI, indicating just how difficult their schedule has been to date.

As for women’s soccer, it was a bit of an up-and-down week but their slide in the polls is quite surprising. Ranked eighth in the nation last week, Rutgers slipped down six spots in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll.

The Scarlet Knights have won three of their last four games including a 2-0 home win on Sunday over Wisconsin. On Thursday, they had a disappointing 2-2 home draw against Minnesota.

Rutgers’ only loss of the season came on Sept. 22, a 2-0 loss at No. 24 Penn State.
