Rutgers field hockey remains third in the nation after another impressive week that included a strong win against a ranked Big Ten opponent.

The Scarlet Knights (12-2, 4-1 Big Ten) climbed to the No. 3 spot in last week’s National Field Hockey Coaches Association Poll (NFHCA) after a solid win at Penn State.  This past week, they beat then-No. 8 Maryland at home. Maryland’s ranking remains unchanged this week.

On Sunday, Rutgers beat a solid Columbia team 2-0 at home.

The only losses of the season for Rutgers came at St. Joseph’s early in the season and then during the conference schedule at home to No. 1 Iowa.

The schedule this week will be very telling for Rutgers. They play at No. 2 Michigan on Friday and then at No. 21 Ohio State, both games that will have huge implications for Rutgers in terms of seeding for the upcoming Big Ten Tournament, which the Scarlet Knights host this year.

The top three teams in the latest NHFCA poll are all from the Big Ten, led by No. 1 Iowa and aforementioned Michigan.

A total of six Big Ten teams are in the polls top 10.
