Rutgers field hockey is up four spots following a big weekend for the Scarlet Knights.
Winners of four straight games, Rutgers is now No. 6 in the nation in the latest National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I Coaches Poll. The poll is the gold standard of rankings for collegiate field hockey.
The latest jump in the poll comes after Rutgers won 3-1 at No. 17 Princeton on Sunday. Princeton’s rank did not change after the loss.
Rutgers is 8-1 on the year and 1-0 in a tough Big Ten, having beaten then No. 3 Northwestern on the road this past Friday night. The Wildcats, now ranked fourth nationally, are 8-2 this season.
How tough is the Big Ten this year? Three teams from the conference are ranked ahead of sixth-ranked Rutgers (No. 1 Iowa, No. 2 Penn and No. 4 Northwestern). Immediately after Rutgers is No. 7 Maryland and No. 8 Penn State. That makes for six Big Ten teams in the poll’s top 10.
Ohio State checks in at No. 18 rounding out the Big Ten’s strong recognition in the current top 25 poll.
