Rutgers football continues to get attention in college football rankings across all polls and publications. After closing out their non-conference schedule this past weekend, the Scarlet Knights sit at 3-0 for the first time since 2012. They continue to receive love from various media outlets. Rutgers again received votes in the latest USA Today Sports AFCA Coaches Poll. The Foxsports.com poll is showing a ton of respect for what the Scarlet Knights have done so far this season, ranking them as No. 15 in the nation. Although the expert opinion may vary drastically depending on where you look, there is no question that Rutgers is making waves and getting attention across the college football landscape.
USA TODAY college football writer Paul Myberg released his initial preseason rankings of all 130 college programs, he did not have much love for the Scarlet Knights. He had them listed behind nine other Big Ten schools, sitting at No. 78 overall in the country.
After a dominant victory from Rutgers in their season opener over Temple, Myberg felt it was only right to slide the Scarlet Knights up ten spots in his post Week 1 re-rankings, slotting them in at No. 68. Myberg showed continued faith in Week 2’s re-ranking, Moving Rutgers up to No. 63 after they grinded a win out against Syracuse.
Rutgers slid a bit in the re-ranking after Week 3 now sitting at No. 65. That keeps them in the top half of the country. Although their week 3 result was favorable, they likely did not get as much support as previous weeks due to them taking on a FCS team in Delaware.
The Big Ten had plenty of movement, now with three teams (Penn State, Iowa, Michigan) in the top 10, six teams in the top 25, and nine still slotting in at 65 and above. The Scarlet Knights opponent this weekend, Michigan, jumped from 18 to 10 in the rankings. Fellow Big Ten team Michigan State scorched up Myberg’s rankings, soaring 40 spots from 64 to 24.
