The Rutgers Scarlet Knights are pulling out all the stops for this Saturday night and calling on all of the scarlet as they welcome the Iowa Hawkeyes to town. The Scarlet Knights want to lean heavily on that scarlet to do everything they can to create a home field advantage.
Rutgers head coach is imploring fans to create a “Scarlet-out” on Saturday night with every fan wearing scarlet to the game.
“One thing that I wanted to just again thank our fans and encourage them next week for a ‘Scarlet-out’ – pack that place – as if it isn’t always a ‘Scarlet-out,’ right? But everybody wearing the game…on Saturday night, a great atmosphere,” Schiano said when discussing the upcoming game against Iowa.
Rutgers does not have the environment that is Kinnick Stadium but Schiano is accustomed to what those environments are like and wants to create that for Rutgers.
“I just told our team, they haven’t seen that stadium the way it’s gonna be. We have, but a lot of those kids haven’t. And so that’s something to think about, get excited about this weekend. So look forward to seeing our fans when we get back home. Everybody, wear red to the game,” Schiano said when discussing the home field advantage he wants to create.
Kickoff is at 6 p.m. CST and will be on FS1 as both the Hawkeyes and Scarlet Knights try to get their Big Ten conference play started on the right foot with a win.
Iowa is 7-3 in its past 10 league openers and 12-11 overall in Big Ten openers under the direction of head coach Kirk Ferentz. That includes a 14-7 road win over Rutgers in 2016.
