Rutgers basketball: Ron Harper Jr. goes off the board in latest NBA mock draft

Ron Harper Jr. lands with the Indiana Paces in the latest NBA mock draft from Bleacher Report.

Ron Harper Jr. is on the brink in mock drafts of being taken in this month’s NBA draft. The Rutgers basketball forward is a tweener, both in terms of his position at the next level but also whether he slips into the second round of the draft.

One national site, however, seems sold on Harper’s outlook.

Bleacher Report has Harper as the No. 60 pick in the NBA draft, heading to the Indiana Pacers. Jonathan Wasserman writes this accurate assessment of Harper and why he lands where he does in the second round:

“Harper made enough threes and impact plays at Rutgers for teams in the second round to forget about his lack of athleticism and quickness.”

The Rutgers star averaged 15.8 points per game and 5.9 rebounds last season.

Over the weekend, Harper worked out for the Charlotte Hornets and talked about the workout with the NBA squad:

“I’m trying to showcase my 3-point shooting capability, my consistency and most importantly, I feel like I’m trying to showcase my defensive versatility,” Harper said in a video posted to social media by the Hornets.

“The way I can defend multiple positions.”
