Rutgers basketball continued their national recruiting, sending out an offer last week to Brandon McCoy Jr., a guard from California in the 2026 class.
Playing for St. John Bosco, McCoy’s recruitment is already heating up. He has recent offers from Cal and Washington State. He also holds offers from Arizona State, Louisville and Oregon among others.
Last season as a freshman, he averaged 8.6 points and 4.5 assists per game. He is 6-foot-3 and 165 pounds.
ESPN ranks McCoy as a five-star recruit and the No. 15 player in the nation in the 2026 class.
McCoy posted about his Rutgers offer on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

The offer from Rutgers came in last week, he told Rutgers Wire:
“The way I found out I got the Rutgers offer was I recently just played in the NCAA College Basketball Academy in Memphis and after one of my games my coach, Corey Boswell, said ‘coach Smok’e was at the game and wanted to offer me,” McCoy told Rutgers Wire.
“So I spoke to ‘coach Smoke’ through my coach’s phone and giving me an offer.”
In his tweet about his offer, McCoy thanked Marlon Williamson. Hired this offseason as an assistant coach, Williamson is making an impression on the recruiting trail. He has spent time recently as an assistant at Central Michigan and Pittsburgh.
