Rutgers basketball: Mawot Mag to make season debut against Seton Hall

Mawot Mag is expected to return for Rutgers basketball this weekend.

Rutgers men’s basketball will get a significant boost on Saturday when Mawot Mag returns to the lineup. Mag will be making his season debut after missing the first eight games due to a knee injury. His return is needed as Rutgers has lost their last two games.

Although Mag has dealt with injuries the last two seasons, he has been valuable when healthy. In 23 games during the 2022-2023 campaign, Mag averaged 7.8 points a game. He was also a threat on the boards, with 85 defensive rebounds.

While the Melbourne native will be eased along, Rutgers is a better team with Mag in the lineup. He saw an increase in playing time last year and took full advantage. After scoring 106 points during his first two seasons as a Scarlet Knight, he finished last season with 180 points.

The Scarlet Knights did not hide their excitement for his return as the news became official yesterday afternoon. In a post on the X app, Rutgers posted a picture of Mag with a caption that said, ” Return of the Mag.” Many fans responded by welcoming Mag back to the team.

With Mag back in the lineup, Rutgers bench also becomes deeper. If the Prolific Prep High School product can regain his form from last season, this Rutgers team will be a tough matchup.
