Superstar Houston Rockets guard and nine-time NBA All-Star Russell Westbrook continued his acts of giving amid the COVID-19 pandemic by paying an in-person visit to his hometown hospital in Los Angeles.
Through his Why Not? Foundation, Westbrook arrived Thusday night at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Hospital, located just south of downtown Los Angeles. While there, Westbrook helped provide meals to nurses in the intensive care (ICU) and COVID-19 units at the hospital.
“Extremely humbling to be able to do this, and we appreciate all your hard work during this time,” Westbrook said in a caption accompanying the photos. “Thank you for all that you do!”
Westbrook wore a mask and gloves as precautionary measures.
Shortly after the pandemic began, Westbrook made a significant donation to his hometown city’s Angelenos Fund, organized by the city’s mayor. Former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden then referred to Westbrook as an example of the “character of the American people.”

In Houston, where the former NBA MVP now plays basketball, Westbrook recently donated 650 new laptops to children who are no longer able to physically attend school due to the pandemic. Many of these children come from families who were unable to afford the technology required to make a virtual learning environment successful.
And on Jackie Robinson Day, Westbrook joined an initiative to provide 4.2 million masks and other personal protective equipment to medical workers in African American communities hit hardest by COVID-19.
In recent days, Westbrook has reportedly been among the NBA stars pushing for a resumption of the idled 2019-20 season. But his actions make it clear that he’s aware of the bigger picture in society, as well.
