Rui Hachimura’s jersey is the most-sold in Japan this season

Japanese-born Rui Hachimura’s No. 8 is the best-selling NBA jersey in Japan this season, topping LeBron James and Steph Curry.

No. 3: Golden State Warriors guard Steph Curry.

No. 2: Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James

No. 1: Washington Wizards forward Rui Hachimura.

The Japan Times reported the top-selling NBA jersey in Japan is rookie Rui Hachimura, who was born in Toyama, Japan and attended high school at Meisei High School.

Hachimura has accounted for 24% of NBA jersey sales off the online store in Japan since the start of the season, according to the Times.

He has helped the Wizards record the second-most sales on the store in the country, behind the Lakers and James, who is second in terms of players.

Also in the top 10 with Hachimura, James and Curry is Kyrie Irving, James Harden, Russell Westbrook, Anthony Davis, Luka Doncic, Kawhi Leonard and Kevin Durant.

Hachimura was the second Japanese player to be drafted into the NBA. The first, Yasutaka Okayama, was selected in the eighth round of the 1981 draft.

Hachimura became the third Japanese athlete to appear in an NBA game, following Yuta Tabuse 2004 with the Phoenix Suns and Yuta Watanabe, who debuted with the Memphis Grizzlies in 2018.

The Wizards rookie has been solid in his first year, starting all 33 games he has appeared in. He is averaging 13.8 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists in just under 30 minutes per game.
