Rookie QB Bryce Young corrected mistaken play on Panthers’ OTA script

Panthers QB Andy Dalton said Bryce Young, on the very first day of OTAs, pointed out a play that was incorrectly written into the team’s script.

The Carolina Panthers have been investing a massive amount of resources into Bryce Young due in large part to the head on his shoulders. And, on his very first day of organized team activities, he’s already showing why.

Fellow quarterback Andy Dalton spoke with reporters following the opening session of OTAs on Monday. He was asked if he believes Young is more advanced than the usual rookie passer.

“I think he’s just got a good understanding of the game of football,” he replied. “I mean, there was even an example today. We were talkin’, we had the script and one of the plays was written wrong. And he brought it up to say, ‘This is supposed to be this, right?’ Yeah, it was supposed to be a different tag on there.”

When the Panthers selected Young with the No. 1 overall pick last month, they knew were drafting a savant of a quarterback. But, based on this little anecdote, they may have also drafted another coach.

Young would later hit the podium himself and heap the praise right back on Dalton.

“Yeah, I’m in there trying to pick Andy’s brain as much as I can,” he said. “He’s a great vet. Obviously, has had a bunch of success throughout his career. Someone who’s super smart, super intelligent. You see why he’s been able to have the success he’s had for such a long period of time.”

Hmmm . . . it seems like there’s a lot of IQ points in that Carolina quarterback room.
