Rookie CB Elijah Jones heads to IR; Cardinals sign LB Krys Barnes

Jones will be out at least the first four games of the season.

The Arizona Cardinals already have made some moves on the 53-man roster. They announced Thursday that rookie cornerback Elijah Jones was placed on injured reserve. He has a heel injury. He left the preseason finale with what was announced as an ankle injury at the time.

Head coach Jonathan Gannon had previously stated he would miss the season opener. Now he must miss at least the first four games of the season. By being on the 53-man roster initially, he is eligible to be designated to return.

To replace him on the roster, linebacker Krys Barnes was signed to the active roster from the practice squad, giving the Cardinals now four inside linebackers on the roster.

They also announced three practice squad additions, signing tight end Jordan Murray, defensive lineman P.J. Mustipher and offensive lineman Luke Tenuta.

Murray was among final cuts for the Indianapolis Colts on Tuesday. He spent most of last season on the Colts’ practice squad last season.

Mustipher was among final cuts for the Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday. He spent last season on the Denver Broncos’ practice squad and on the active roster of the New Orleans Saints. He entered the league last year as a rookie free agent.

Tenuta was cut on Tuesday by the Green Bay Packers. He was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the sixth round in 2022. He spent the last two seasons with the Packers after getting waived by Colts, who had him after he was cut by the Bills.

Their practice squad is now complete with 17 players.
