Ronnie Stanley ranked as top five tackle by Pro Football Focus

The Baltimore Ravens lost Ronnie Stanley to a leg injury in Week 8 of the 2020 season. Pro Football Focus ranks him as a top-five tackle

The Baltimore Ravens have one of the best tackles in the league in Ronnie Stanley. Despite never playing a full season over the course of his five year career, when he’s on the football field he makes his presence felt.

Stanley is a force both in run blocking and pass protection. He has a strong base, is able to work well in space, and uses his power to move defenders off of the line.

In a list ranking the top 32 tackles in the NFL, Anthony Treash of Pro Football Focus put Ronnie Stanley in his top-five at the No. 5 position. When explaining his rankings, Treash mentions the fact that Stanley has been at the top of the league in pass protection grades over the last two seasons..

“Stanley was his usual self prior to going down with a season-ending injury in Week 8 of 2020, virtually never losing in pass protection. He earned a 91.0 pass-blocking grade over his six outings, which at the time was the best in the NFL. In 2019, Stanley led all tackles in pass-blocking grade by over four grading points with a 93.3 mark.”

Treash also talks about his true pass set grades, which have also earned top marks.

“While Baltimore’s offense helps, Stanley maintains his strong ranking when isolating the data set to true pass sets. He ranks fourth among all tackles in true pass set grade since entering the league in 2016, and he jumps to first when looking at just the past two seasons.”

After Stanley went down with a gruesome leg injury during Baltimore’s Week 8 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Ravens’ offensive line had to shuffle around players at many different positions. The combination of losing Stanley plus Marshal Yanda to retirement in a span of few months severely hurt them, so getting Stanley back for the 2021 season will be a massive boost for the Baltimore offense this upcoming season.
