The source of turmoil and losing has been identified in the Washington Redskins’ locker room, and new head coach Ron Rivera has successfully rid of it less than a week after taking the job.
The ping pong table and shuffleboard table have been removed from the Redskins locker room after becoming staples for the players over the years. NBC Sports Washington’s JP Finlay broke down just what that means in Washington.
In the last two months, however, the ping pong tables became a spot for all members of the team. Defensive linemen had a competitive doubles match going. Terry McLaurin had taken over as the best player after the three specialists and then Case Keenum.
For an awful team dealing with a fired coach and a very uncertain future, the ping pong table was one spot where players seemed to have fun.
However, under Rivera, there is seemingly no time for fun and games. The coach preached about discipline in his introductory press conference on Thursday, and that seems to be starting at the very base-layer, with the elimination of distractions in the locker room. If it leads to winning, then it’s absolutely the right move. Just hope that players don’t take this as a direct shot at their happiness.
