Though we appreciate them every day of the year, today is a day when we all get the chance to celebrate our fathers, be it by blood or by relationship, and all that they do for us.
For Washington Redskisn coach Ron Rivera, a father figure has always been important to him in his life. It was important to him as a child, growing up in a military family, and it remains important still, as a father himself.
As the coach of an NFL team, Rivera also serves as a father-type figure to many players as well. We saw it during his time in Carolina where he stood as an ultimate player’s coach, at times giving some tough love on the field or even consoling a player who was down at times. While both facets of his life — family and team — are incredibly important, Rivera says that the key is being able to dedicate yourself to both and live in the moment.
His motto? “Be where your feet are.”
“That is one of the things I always tried to do,” Rivera said, via NBC Sports Washington. “Is to be there for both my kids.”
When balancing a busy work schedule with an important home-life, all while standing under the spotlight of the national media, it’s a tough tight-rope to walk and make sure everything is in order. For Rivera, it’s all about being there for those who need you and giving them your all at the moment.
