Ron Rivera is impressed with Saahdiq Charles, Geron Christian so far

Both Charles and Christian will be pitted in a battle for the LT spot this fall, but Rivera seems pleased with progress from both of them.

One of the biggest storylines in training camp for the Washington Football Team rests on the offensive line, where several questions stand on the left side about who will fill the spots left behind by Trent Williams and Ereck Flowers.

There are several players who have been either signed or drafted this past year that might have a shot at starting, but determining who is best-suited throughout training camp will be a tough task. As it stands now, a starting LT and starting LG will need to be determined from this group of players:

  • LT Saahdiq Charles (R)
  • LT Geron Christian
  • LT Cornelius Lucas (FA)
  • LG Wes Martin
  • LG Wes Schweitzer (FA)
  • LG Kevin Pamphile (FA)
  • LG Michael Liedtke (FA)

When talking to the media on Tuesday morning, head coach Ron Rivera updated the competition a little bit, noting that he was impressed by both Charles and Christian, who may have taken a leg up on the LT race.

We don’t yet know what to expect from Lucas, who played six seasons in the NFL, most recently with the Chicago Bears, but he will surely be in the mix once pads get put on and training camp really begins. Until then, though, it is encouraging to hear that the two young guys that Washington has invested in at the LT position are at least coming along, and there is a chance that it could be their spot for the next several years.
