The Chicago Bears and former Washington Huskies star wide receiver Rome Odunze agreed to the No. 9 overall pick’s rookie contract on Tuesday, which will pay him a fully guaranteed $22.7 million over his first four seasons in the NFL. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the contract also holds a $13.3 million signing bonus.
Like all first round picks, Odunze’s contract with a fifth-year team option that, if picked up by the team, would be a lucrative increase in his salary. For reference, the Philadelphia Eagles picked up the overall of 2021’s No. 10 overall pick, Heisman Trophy-winning wide receiver Devonta Smith, for the 2025 season which will pay him $15.5 million.
Odunze and quarterback Caleb Williams were the only two members of Chicago’s rookie class who hadn’t signed their contracts yet, now leaving Williams, who is reportedly close to signing his deal, as the only one unsigned as the Bears are set to report to training camp on Tuesday.
The Husky legend’s contract also stacks up nicely against the two wide receivers drafted ahead of him. The No. 4 overall pick, Marvin Harrison Jr., signed a $35.3 million deal and the No. 6 overall pick, Malik Nabers, inked a $29.2 million contract.
