Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition launches today. A trilogy package of remasters, it features the games that defined the open-world sandbox genre almost exactly as you remember them. Almost.
As well as coming with a host of visual improvements such as improved character models, better draw distance, increased pedestrian density, more foliage, better weather effects and a lot more besides, there will be a couple of things missing from the game.
One fan-favorite feature of the classic GTA games is the cheats. Input a code and you’ll see tanks fall from the skies, riots break out on the streets, or your bank balance swelling with freshly deposited dollars.

For the remasters, some of these cheats have been removed due to technical reasons.
“We actually had to remove a couple for technical reasons, certain things that didn’t play well in the Unreal base,” producer Rich Rosado told USA Today. “But that’s actually where I’ll leave it. There’s some fun with discovery. I’m not saying plus or minus, but I’d rather not just go right on the nose before the release of the game and go straight to the end credits.”
While Rosado confirmed that some cheats have been removed, he stopped short of confirming whether or not new ones will replace them. But it’s just as he said, there’s some fun with discovery.
