Rockstar has no plans for more major Red Dead Online updates

The studio is shifting resources around as GTA 6 development ramps up.

It sounds like Red Dead Online isn’t getting another significant content update anytime soon.

On Thursday, Rockstar made an announcement regarding the future of several internal projects. Specifically, the studio is shifting many Red Dead Online resources towards GTA 6.

“Over the past few years, we have been steadily moving more development resources towards the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series,” Rockstar said. “Understanding more than ever the need to exceed players’ expectations and for this next entry to be the best it can possibly be – and as a result, we are in the process of making some changes to how we support Red Dead Online.”

Rockstar’s plan with Red Dead Online going forward mostly involves improving already-existing content.

“We plan to build upon existing modes and add new Telegram Missions this year, rather than delivering major themed content updates like in previous years,” Rockstar continues. “We will continue to highlight and share the creative efforts of our Red Dead community at every opportunity via the Newswire and beyond.”

While the studio didn’t totally rule out another major update, it seems unlikely. None of this is terribly surprising, either. For months, Red Dead Online fans have been screaming about the lack of content. Take-Two has ‘heard the frustration,’ but nothing came of that outcry.

Earlier this week, a report claimed that GTA 4 and Red Dead Redemption remasters were in the works, but both projects were scrapped so that Rockstar could focus on GTA 6.
