Rockets organize week of basketball events to celebrate Houston’s ‘713 Day’

To celebrate ‘713 Day’ in Houston, the Rockets are organizing a #Rockets713 campaign with a week of basketball drops and camps.

To the average person living in the United States, July 13 is likely just another hot summer day. But for residents of Houston and surrounding areas, it is recognized as “713 Day,” with those numbers representing the initial area code created in 1947 for the city.

With that in mind, in recent years, the Houston Rockets have joined many of the city’s professional sports franchises who are celebrating the day with special, free events related to their sport.

In 2024, week-long events include youth basketball clinics led by former Rockets players Calvin Murphy and DJ Augustin, as well as an all-girls clinic hosted by WNBA legend Cynthia Cooper.

The big event on Saturday, July 13, at the Fonde Community Center includes a 3-point shootout and dunk contest, which will feature celebrity guest judges such as former point guard Rafer Alston.

Additional features include special performances and the Clutch City Beats recording studio; photo pop-ups and food trucks; an opportunity to purchase new “713 Day” merchandise from a pop-up team shop; and a chance to meet Rockets legends and celebrities.

Finally, on social media, fans can take part by using the #Rockets713 hashtag. By doing so, each fan will receive a ticket voucher for an upcoming game at a discounted cost of $7.13 per ticket. The same vouchers can also be obtained by donating school supplies.
