Rockets’ KJ Martin erupts for 30 points on NBA G League assignment

The Rockets rookie turned in his finest performance on assignment in the NBA G League, producing his first 30-point game of the season.

On Saturday, Houston Rockets guard KJ Martin turned in his finest performance on assignment in the NBA G League, and nearly led the Rio Grande Valley Vipers to victory in the process.

Martin, who was the 52nd overall pick, produced 30 points, 11 rebounds, three blocked shots and two assists during the 119-115 loss to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. He went 12-of-17 from the field, including 1-of-2 from 3-point range.

In his previous two games on assignment, Martin totaled just 22 points as he shattered his previous season-high of 14 points on Saturday. Martin came out aggressive on Saturday and showed off his athleticism and motor throughout the game.

In typical fashion, Martin also threw down a couple of highlight-reel dunks.

The Rockets assigned Martin to the Vipers to get additional time after playing sparingly to start the season. The opportunity should prove to be rather valuable for his development and future with the Rockets organization.
