Rockets’ Jalen Green reveals latest update on hamstring injury

Green provided an update on his injured left hamstring that has cost him the past six games with the Rockets.

Houston Rockets rookie Jalen Green on Friday said he is making good progress from a left hamstring injury but did not have a firm timetable to return to the court.

Green, who has missed the last six games, suffered the injury on Nov. 24 in a win over the Chicago Bulls. He injured himself on a drive to the basket and was slow to get up. He eventually shot his two free throws and went straight to the locker room.

The Rockets initially said Green would be evaluated on a week-by-week basis. He has been seen doing some light shooting drills on the court but has not yet been cleared to participate in practice.

“I’m making good progress with the training staff,” Green said. “I’m getting better every day, stronger every day. We’re in a good spot right now. We don’t have an exact date when I’m coming back. We’re just trying to make progress each day and get better every day.”

Rockets head coach Stephen Silas said last week that Green would not play anytime soon but is itching to get back onto the court. The team is going to be cautious with the injury and not rush him back into action this early into the season with more than half of the schedule to go.

Green is off to a strong start with the Rockets, averaging 14 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 18 games. He was nominated for Western Conference Rookie of the Month and ranks fourth in scoring average among all first-year players, fifth in minutes and sixth in field goals.

Houston has posted seven consecutive wins since Green was initially injured. They have the longest winning streak in the NBA and have received strong contributions from several players in that span, including Christian Wood, Eric Gordon and Jae’Sean Tate among others.
