Led by young prospects such as Jalen Green and Kevin Porter Jr., the rebuilding Houston Rockets aren’t expected to contend for an NBA championship in the upcoming 2021-22 season. They do, however, see it as a potential start to that type of journey in the years ahead.
Thus, with 2021-22 viewed as the launching point for a new era of the franchise, the Rockets introduced “Light the Fuse” on Monday as their official marketing slogan. Previous slogans from recent seasons have included “Run As One” and “One Mission.”
The marketing push even includes an official “Light the Fuse” song (listen here) by Houston-based rappers Bun B, Paul Wall, and Slim Thug, which name-drops many players from the current roster (Green, Porter Jr., Christian Wood, Jae’Sean Tate, Danuel House Jr., and KJ Martin).
Marketing collateral featuring the slogan should appear beginning with Tuesday’s home preseason opener. Tipoff between the Rockets and Wizards is set for 7:00 p.m. Central from Toyota Center.
