Four months after having what appeared to be his first career triple-double taken away by an NBA review, Houston Rockets guard Kevin Porter Jr. finally made it over the threshold in Wednesday’s high-octane 121-118 loss (box score) to Sacramento at Toyota Center.
With an offensive rebound early in the fourth quarter, Porter pushed his way into double figures on the glass. Ultimately, the 6-foot-4 guard finished off one of the best games of his NBA career with 30 points, 12 rebounds, 12 assists, and only 3 turnovers, all on efficient 11-of-17 shooting (64.7%) from the field and 4-of-10 (40.0%) on 3-pointers.
The 21-year-old lefty is now finishing up his third NBA season. Entering Wednesday, Porter had averaged 14.1 points (36.7% on 3-pointers), 6.0 assists, and 4.1 rebounds in 30.5 minutes with the Rockets this season. He has played in 56 games, all starts at point guard.
Porter will be entering the final season of his initial NBA contract in 2022-23, though the Rockets will be eligible to offer him an extension during the upcoming 2022 offseason. As the 2021-22 season winds down, a strong finish by Porter could give the Rockets more to consider.
