Rockets assign KJ Martin and Kevin Porter Jr. to G League affiliate

Martin and Porter are both expected to play with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in the bubble at the Wide World of Sports Complex.

On Friday, the Houston Rockets assigned rookie KJ Martin and guard Kevin Porter Jr. to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA G League prior to the start of the season on Feb. 10.

Martin, who was the 52nd overall pick, has played sparingly this season and has only logged seven appearances with the Rockets. He is averaging 3.3 points and 2.7 rebounds in 10 minutes per game on 37% shooting from the field.

Meanwhile, Porter was acquired by the Rockets on Jan. 21 from the Cleveland Cavaliers after a myriad of personal issues. The Rockets plan to slowly integrate Porter in with the team, and assigning him to the Vipers will give him an opportunity to play and adjust to the system.

The NBA G League on Wednesday released the full 135-game and TV schedule for the 2021 season set to tip off at the Wide World of Sports Complex near Orlando, Florida. 18 teams, including the NBA G League Ignite, will each play 15 games through March 6.

The top eight teams from the regular season will then advance to a single-elimination playoff, set to begin March 8 with the NBA G League Final to take place on March 11.
