Houston Rockets rookie Alperen Sengun on Wednesday missed his second straight day of training camp due to an illness unrelated to the coronavirus, head coach Stephen Silas said.
Sengun so far has been unable to participate with the Rockets in practice and other activities during training camp, which is being held in Galveston, Texas. The team has been sending video clips and other information to Sengun to review while he isn’t with the team.
“It’s unfortunate,” Silas said. “Thankfully, it is not COVID so that’s a great thing. He’ll be back with us. It’s two days out of the season so it’s really not that big of a deal. (Rockets assistant coach) Will Weaver is sending him video clips and keeping him abreast of what we’re putting in and what we’re doing. He is a smart kid. He learns easily.”
The team certainly would love to have Sengun available but it does not appear that they are overly concerned. He enters the league with prior professional experience in Turkey and was among the standouts of summer league.

The Rockets will have to monitor his fitness level once he can return since he has not been able to practice with the team. The team will likely look to ease him into action once he is no longer sick in an effort to ramp up his work ahead of the season.
Sengun was among the players that looked to be playing very well with the team in scrimmages. He and fellow rookie Jalen Green were even said to be dominating during open runs and looked to be jelling well together on the court.
Houston is building toward the future and will rely heavily on Sengun, Green and the rest of its young core. They should be a team to watch once at full power on the court.
