Boston Celtics big man Robert Williams III’s recent contract extension evidently has a few more wrinkles in it than the initial four-year, $54 million price tag initially reported in the NBA media according to Jay King of The Athletic.
Per King, Timelord could get $6 million in unlikely incentives (meaning they are thresholds he did not achieve in the previous season and therefore are not included in a cap figure until he does reach said goals) on top of a base pay of $48 million over four seasons. Those benchmarks include playing in at least 69 games a season.
He’ll also see his paycheck go up if he makes an All-Defensive team or Boston advances in the postseason.
Robert Williams’ contract extension includes $48 million guaranteed plus $6 million in unlikely incentives, per sources. He will earn extra money if he plays in 69 games in a season, and even more if he does that plus Celtics advance in playoffs. Also has all-defense incentives.

All in all, it sounds as if the Celtics and Williams have hammered out a fairly solid deal for both sides, with each party having some protection should the former Texas A&M player find himself limited by the injury issues that have plagued his early career.
A little sweetener for individual and team excellence never hurt, either.
