For all intents and purposes, the 2022 New York Jets season is over. They have just one game left and already know they cannot qualify for the postseason, marking the 12th consecutive season without a playoff appearance for Gang Green.
However, Sunday presents an opportunity for the Jets to play spoiler and prevent a division rival from achieving their own postseason goals.
The Miami Dolphins are still alive in the playoff picture but need to win on Sunday to have a chance. They also need to root for the Bills to beat the Patriots. A loss for Miami ends all hope, so the Jets have a chance to have the Dolphins join them on the golf course during the playoffs. Or rather, poolside, as Robert Saleh joked Wednesday.
While Saleh mentioned he is focused on his team finishing the season strong, he did throw a joking shot at his old buddy Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel, saying “Would it be nice to have McDaniel hanging out with me poolside in a couple of weeks? You’re damn right it would.”
The Dolphins’ quarterback situation is still up in the air and the team signed Mike Glennon to their practice squad as insurance for Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) and Teddy Bridgewater (finger). If both quarterbacks are out, Skylar Thompson would be in line to start what is basically a playoff game for Miami as they try to end a five-game losing streak. The Jets are sticking with Mike White as their starter.
Will Miami be swimming with the big boys? Or will be they lounging around with the Jets during the playoffs? We’ll find out Sunday.
