Robert Kraft: Text from Meek Mill said Lamar Jackson wants to join Patriots

Robert Kraft got a text from an unlikely source stating Lamar Jackson wants to come to New England.

File this under the category of things you’d never expect to hear at an NFL meeting. But then again, when it’s a person as well connected as New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, nothing should really be surprising.

When speaking with media members on Monday, Kraft noted a recent conversation with rapper Meek Mill regarding Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson.

According to Kraft, Mill texted him a few days ago claiming Jackson wanted to join the Patriots. This news comes after the former NFL MVP posted on Twitter that he asked the Ravens to trade him.

The Ravens placed the nonexclusive franchise tag on Jackson this month, meaning other teams can negotiate with him directly and sign him to an offer sheet that Baltimore could match.

Coach Bill Belichick was asked about Jackson during the NFL owners meetings in Phoenix, but he quickly shot down the question since it dealt with a player that wasn’t currently on the Patriots roster.

If Jackson really is interested in coming to New England, it could make things interesting. Would the Patriots actually consider trading for the two-time Pro Bowler, and if so, what would a deal consist of?

More importantly, would Belichick be willing to pay the hefty price tag it would take to land Jackson long-term? There are a lot of questions that have suddenly been amplified by the most unlikely of sources.
