Robert Griffin III explains why Drake Maye should start for Patriots

Robert Griffin III thinks Drake Maye should start for the Patriots

Football analyst Robert Griffin III had high praise for New England Patriots rookie quarterback Drake Maye.

Maye opened some eyes in Thursday’s preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles. He went 6-of-11, throwing for 47 yards. He also managed to score the first rushing touchdown of his NFL career.

Thursday’s performance was undoubtedly a step in the right direction for the rookie, as he continues to adjust to the NFL level. He looked comfortable in the pocket, and he was able to make quick reads to get the ball to his receivers on time.

Griffin lobbied for the former North Carolina star to start for New England when breaking down his game on social media.

“The Patriots should start Drake Maye at QB because he gives their offense THE PLAYMAKING ABILITY its needs,” Griffin posted on social media. “Maye takes stress off the O-line with how he moves within and outside of the pocket, is diagnosing coverage and manipulating safeties well in game and gives them the best chance to score points to win in a division with 3 EXPLOSIVE OFFENSES.”

Maye turned heads with Thursday’s performance, particularly with the way he was able to move out of the pocket.

He also showed a strong ability to place the football where only his receivers could get it. Although it was only one game, there were certainly positives to take away from this performance. It will be interesting to see how he follows it up in the preseason finale.
