Rob Lowe mocked his viral NFL hat in a Super Bowl pregame video

Well played, Rob.

Hey, Rob Lowe can take a joke.

During the NFC Championship Game between the 49ers and Packers, Lowe was featured during the broadcast as Fox promoted 9-1-1: Lone Star (starring Lowe). The actor was in the stands at Levi’s Stadium strictly because Fox wanted him there for that promotional plug, so in the spirit of neutrality, Lowe wore an NFL shield hat.

Lowe subsequently went viral for his hat choice because, well, why would any non-ref wear an NFL logo hat? He looked like an undercover ref.

Ahead of Sunday’s Super Bowl 54, Lowe got in on the joke. The Fox pregame show aired its weekly “Riggle’s Picks” segment, which included a Lowe cameo with a nod to that viral cap.

Here’s the relevant clip:

While discussing the Miami Super Bowl party advice he gave to Rob Riggle, Lowe held a hat that simply read, “Sports.”

He said:

“I gave Rob the single most important tip for throwing a party in Miami besides wearing a non-committal hat.”

And for those wondering … Rob Lowe does in fact have a favorite team. It’s the Indianapolis Colts. He should wear that hat next time.
