Rob Gronkowski will kick a field goal on live TV as part of a FanDuel Super Bowl ad

Gronk will have to give Adam Vinatieri a call.

Rob Gronkowski is going to attempt a field during a live Super Bowl commercial for FanDuel Sportsbook, and while it should make for some really entertaining television, it’s also an incredibly cunning marketing strategy.

According to a release, any FanDuel bettor with a Super Bowl wager of at least $5 will win a share of $10 million in free bets if Gronk “kicks the field goal.” It doesn’t say he has to make it. All Gronk has to do is attempt the field goal, which is ultimately the whole point of the “Kick of Destiny” campaign.

FanDuel released the first commercial of the campaign on Monday, where Gronk’s agent informs him of an opportunity to return to football as a kicker during the Super Bowl.

“I spent my career catching the ball, but I always knew I could kick it and now I’ll do it live in front of football fans everywhere during the Super Bowl,” Gronkowski said in the FanDuel release. “With $10 million in free FanDuel bets on the line, I’m training every day to give fans something to root for and to watch the ‘Kick of Destiny’ live on national television.”

According to the release, Gronkowski became a FanDuel brand partner in December and will play a significant role in other aspects in the company’s business, including regular appearances on FanDuel TV.
