RJ Davis suffers injury in UNC scrimmage

RJ Davis suffered a back injury in the team’s exhibition game on Saturday afternoon.

North Carolina held its Blue-White scrimmage game on Saturday night, something that replaced “Live Action with Hubert Davis.” The event was originally scheduled to be out of Chapel Hill but due to a recent hurricane, it was moved to the Dean Dome.

As UNC now gets ready for the regular season, they have an injury to monitor.

Star guard and reigning ACC Player of the Year RJ Davis suffered an injury in the game and has been diagnosed with a lower back contusion per the school. Thats not great news.

Davis was apparently fouled hard, for whatever reason, and hurt his back during the exhibition. The play happened to open the second half and he was on the floor for several minutes before limping off the court with 11:43 left in the scrimmage per The Fayetteville Observer.

Now, the Tar Heels are hoping it’s not serious and he can be ready to go for the regular season opener in under a month.

Davis is UNC’s best-returning player from a team that won the ACC a year ago. He had a fantastic season a year ago averaging 21.2 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.

The Tar Heels are set to play Memphis in an exhibition game on Tuesday for charity but it’s unlikely Davis will play due to the injury. He likely will also miss some practices this week.
