North Carolina’s 2023-24 roster will have a lot of turnover as they welcome back just two starters. Only Armando Bacot and R.J. Davis return to the roster as UNC lost seven players to the transfer portal.
While the Tar Heels did add four players from the portal and a two-man 202 class, it will be on Bacot and Davis to lead this team.
Ahead of the season, 247Sports released its very early All-ACC projections for the new year. Bacot was the lone player to make the first team for the site but Davis just missed the cut.
Here is what Isaac Trotter had to say about Davis and his chances:
G RJ Davis, North Carolina: Davis has a strong case for first-team All-ACC now that Caleb Love is off to Arizona. Davis is the unquestioned lead dog in the UNC backcourt who can lead the Tar Heels back to relevance with his true three-level scoring ability.
Davis is coming off a 2022-23 campaign in which he averaged 16.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game while shooting 42.8 percent from the field.
With no Caleb Love and freshman Elliot Cadeau coming in this year, Davis will likely move to the two-guard and be off the ball. That might fit him better in the UNC system and a big year could be on tap.
