Toronto native R.J. Barrett will play his first game against his hometown team Wednesday as the New York Knicks face the Raptors for the first time on the road this season.
Fittingly, Barrett has something special planned for the occasion.
The third overall pick wouldn’t divulge too many details at practice on Tuesday but he will pay homage to his country in what will be a surreal game for him playing at Scotiabank Arena.
I’m wearing a little something for them tomorrow on the court. That’ll be exciting. I can’t tell you nothing. Just know that it will be a little something. It means a lot. I feel like everybody kind of feels something for where they grew up or where they came from and for me, Canada, the whole country, has my back and I love them for that.

Barrett is listed as questionable to play with an illness in the contest after sitting out Sunday night against the Brooklyn Nets. But, given the significance of the matchup against the Raptors, it would likely take more than that to keep him out.
It is unclear what Barrett has up his sleeve but one would assume he will be rocking a custom pair of PUMA shoes during the game and perhaps maybe even a special outfit, too.
In any case, the matchup should be a good one for Barrett.
