The talk of the town in Washington D.C., and in Redskins circles in particular, is whether or not the team will draft DE Chase Young with the No. 2 pick in the NFL Draft. This conversation is nothing new, as fans have been debating it for months on end now. Endless mock drafts have come out since then, but the thought still remains that the Redskins are set with their choice to select Young, and only a massive pick-swap would pry him out of their hands.
Rivera said as much in his press conference on Tuesday, though he didn’t use those words. He didn’t even mention Young’s name, to that point, but he didn’t need to. It was the elephant in the room that everyone was aware of. When discussing the upcoming draft, Rivera stated that no matter what the team does, it is of the utmost importance that the Redskins get a playmaker to who has an impact on the game right now.
Ron Rivera says its extremely important that whoever they pick in the first round needs to be someone who can come in and play. Same thing with a trade back situation, if they do that, the next guy they take has to be a high-impact guy #HTTR

Obviously, Chase Young can be that guy. If they were to trade back and draft someone like Jeff Okudah or Isaiah Simmons, you’d have that guy as well, but outside of the top 5-6 picks, you start to get less of a playmaker.
By mentioning his desire to find someone who can make plays on the field as soon as he enters the building, Rivera all but guaranteed the Redskins will take Young in the first round. That pick is signed and sealed, and on April 23rd, it will be delivered.
