Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey is one of the league’s rising stars. The young guard has taken over the starting point guard job for the Sixers after the James Harden saga, and he hasn’t blinked in the face of the challenge.
Maxey is averaging 26.9 points, 6.7 assists and 4.4 rebounds while shooting 46.6% from the floor and 39.4% from deep. He is averaging only 1.5 turnovers per game which is a good sign for a young guard, and his ability to run the offensive while also scoring has been impressive.
Bleacher Report put together its top 50 players in the league to begin the 2023-24 season, and Maxey comes in ranked eighth:
If you’re looking for some early insight into the Most Improved Player race, look no further than Tyrese Maxey.
He’s playing a league-high 38.4 minutes per game but still seems to make fewer bad decisions than players who spend half that amount of time on the floor, and he hasn’t trended in the wrong direction on defense while faced with so much more offensive responsibility.
The Sixers also haven’t skipped too many beats following the departure of James Harden, largely because of Maxey’s emergence as a bona fide superstar.
If Maxey can continue to play at this high level, the Sixers are going to be in terrific shape as they chase their championship hopes.
