Florida football’s coaching staff has been busy handing out scholarship offers of late, including the one extended to 247Sports four-star defensive lineman [autotag]Caleb Williams[/autotag] out of Chesterfield (Virginia) Matoaca in the 2025 cycle on Saturday.
Interior linebackers coach Jay Bateman had the honor of offering the 6-foot-6-inch, 260-pound lineman after the two established an open rapport.
“I like the Gators. Their heat is great to get in shape in and I’m looking forward to getting to know the coaching staff, football team and culture,” Williams told Gators Online. “I’m ready to see how everything works down there, honestly.”
Despite the connection between Bateman and the high school junior, there is still a lot of ground to cover in acclimating him to the Orange and Blue.
“I haven’t had a relationship (with them) yet because I only talked to Bateman and Nick (McDonald); that’s it, but the conversation was really great. I sent him a photo of how I look and he loved my size.”
The Gators join the Wisconsin Badgers as the two programs to offer him so far this month.
Williams is rated at three stars and ranked No. 350 overall and No. 36 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite, while the On3 industry ranking also has him at three stars and ranks him at Nos. 334 and 33, respectively.
The Virginia Tech Hokies are in the lead for his talents according to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, holding a 56.5% chance of signing him. The Penn State Nittany Lions (13.3%), South Carolina Gamecocks (11.4%) and Tennessee Volunteers (9.5%) trail behind, respectively.
