Well that was a fun 22 hours or so.

Remember Friday when the President/CEO of the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Game went on the radio and said they were exploring the possibility of Notre Dame replacing USC on Alabama’s schedule in Week One?

It made some sense as Notre Dame has a cancelation with USC as well and who knows if Navy is going to be be allowed to play out of conference contests in 2020.

The ACC and SEC have been said to be working in tandem to salvage as many of their matchups this fall as possible and with Notre Dame likely getting ACC assistance to fill out their schedule it made sense from the outside.

Until it was unquestionably shot down Saturday by Alabama’s Athletic Director.

So that’s that.

Notre Dame might or might not be playing Navy in Annapolis come Week One, but we certainly now know they won’t be playing Alabama unless it’s in the postseason.

That was fun while it lasted but I get the feeling this is the tip of the iceberg for rumors of potential schedule fillers that are about to be heading Notre Dame’s way.

Should we start a “Notre Dame Schedule Rumor Tracker” here?

So far it reads:

Happening:

Who knows, perhaps Miami (FL)

Not happening:

Wisconsin or any Big Ten Team

USC, Stanford or the rest of the Pac-12.

Alabama

Has a chance of happening:

Miami (FL)

Any other not already scheduled ACC team
