Riley Files: Staff continuity was a theme at Oklahoma and merits attention at USC

As USC settles into its 2022 season, monitor the performance of the Trojans’ various position coaches under Lincoln Riley and compare that to Oklahoma.

On The Riley Files, Oklahoma insider Kegan Reneau explained that during his tenure with the Sooners, Lincoln Riley had a lot of stability and continuity on his coaching staff. This is akin to what Dabo Swinney has enjoyed over the past decade at Clemson.

Notably, Dabo has finally lost the stability which helped him so much. Brent Venables left Clemson to get the head coaching job at Oklahoma and become Lincoln Riley’s replacement. Clemson offensive coordinator Tony Elliott left to become the head coach at the University of Virginia.

Riley had continuity at Oklahoma, and Reneau makes the unavoidably obvious point about that fact:

“There was a lot of stability on that side of the football map that really helped Lincoln establish his plan and really execute at a high level on the recruiting trail,” Reneau said. “That’s certainly something that we’re gonna talk about in this series: Lincoln Riley’s coaching staff, and what that says about his acumen in terms of assembling people around him.”
