The Rider Broncs and the 22nd-ranked UCLA Bruins meet at Pauley Pavilion Monday in the regular-season opener for both teams. Tip-off is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. ET (FS1). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s college basketball odds around the Rider vs. UCLA odds, and make our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

The Broncs are expected to be in the middle of the pack in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) this season. Unfortunately for Rider, the team has no players voted to either of the All-MAAC first, second or third preseason teams.

The Bruins didn’t make the NCAA Tournament in their final Pac-12 season. UCLA begins a new era in the Big Ten Conference, and the team bolstered the roster big time. G Kobe Johnson comes in to handle the pivot, and G Dylan Andrews is back to handle the backcourt chores.

Rider at UCLA picks and predictions

Prediction

UCLA 80, Rider 61

Moneyline

UCLA (-7000) would cost you 70 times your potential return, and that’s obviously not something you’ll want to do. Betting giant favorites is not a recommended long-term betting strategy.

Against the spread

RIDER +20.5 (-104) is not a team that is expected to do much in the MAAC in 2024-25, but it heads out to UCLA -20.5 (-118) not knowing any better, either.

Coach Mick Cronin’s team should be much better after missing the NCAA Tournament last season, and it is expected to contend for a Big Ten title. However, this is a team which could have some chemistry issues early on with a lot of new parts before it jells together.

Over/Under

OVER 138.5 (-110) is the lean, but don’t get carried away.

These early-season games featuring heavy favorites and huge size discrepancies can lead to blowouts and high scores in the early going.

UCLA should be able to have its way in the frontcourt against the smallish Rider side.
